🏀Basketball: Full Explanation of Rules, Laws and Gameplay as per FIBA
🏀 Introduction to Basketball (According to FIBA)
Basketball is a fast-paced team sport played between two teams of five players each on a rectangular court. The objective of the game, as defined by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), is to score points by legally throwing the ball through the opponent’s basket while preventing the opposing team from scoring. The team that scores the highest number of points at the end of the playing time is declared the winner.
According to FIBA, basketball is played under standardized international rules to ensure fair play, safety, and consistency across all competitions worldwide. These rules govern every aspect of the game, including team composition, court dimensions, equipment, game duration, scoring system, fouls, violations, and officiating.
Basketball was invented in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith, and it is now one of the most popular sports globally. FIBA was established in 1932 and is responsible for organizing international competitions such as the FIBA Basketball World Cup and Olympic basketball events, as well as maintaining the official rules of the game.
Under FIBA regulations, basketball emphasizes teamwork, discipline, speed, skill, and sportsmanship. Players are required to respect the rules, officials, and opponents at all times. The FIBA rules are followed in international matches, national leagues, schools, colleges, and amateur competitions in most countries around the world.
